Along with being one helluva nice guy, Mark is a photojournalist, picture editor and photo educator, working independently in spectacular Denver, Colorado. He has been a staff photojournalist at 9 newspapers including the Aurora (IL) Beacon-News, Denver Post and photo-world-renowned Jasper Herald.
From 2001-2007, Mark was the assignment and daily picture editor at the Rocky Mountain News, where he shared the 2003 Pulitzer prize for Breaking News photography with his sensationally talented photo staff colleagues “for [the Rocky’s] powerful, imaginative coverage of Colorado's raging forest fires,” according to the Pulitzer judges.
In addition to being a five-time contributor to the Mountain Workshops as a staffer, Mark has also been a student of four Mountain Workshops (1989, 1991-2, 1994).
In recent years, Mark has developed and presented a primer workshop - the PLUS ONE Workshop. This 2-hour workshop immediately precedes the formal start of the Mountain Workshops and offers guidance, tips and insight to motivated students. The goal of the PLUS ONE Workshop is to give students a personal “blueprint” for the most productive and skills-expanding Mountain Workshop experience possible.
