Brian Masck is co-owner of Media Café Online, LLC, a digital media and web development company based in Michigan. Previously, he was on the faculty of Western Kentucky University as the Photojournalist-In-Residence for the 2008-2009 academic year. In addition, he was the photo advisor for the Talisman, WKU’s yearbook. From 1999-2006, he was Director of Photography & Editorial Systems at the Flint (Mich.) Journal, a 100,000 circulation daily newspaper. While leading the Journal's transition to digital photography and beginning use of multimedia, he was recognized with national awards in newspaper editing. Under his leadership, the outstanding Journal photo staff won countless awards for photojournalism, and recently the photo staff provided the awards to earn the Journal a title of “MPA Newspaper of the Year”. He was integral to the newspaper achieving high-quality color photo reproduction when the Journal moved to a full-color daily newspaper. In 1990, while working for the Muskegon Chronicle, he was named Michigan Photographer of the Year. He was named Michigan Photo Editor of the Year in 2005. Brian served on the Michigan Press Photographers Association board for over a decade providing the leadership for the MPPA to produce interactive CD-ROMs of the winning contest images and to begin a web site for the organization in 1993. He has been a force for moving photojournalism technology forward.
