The 2020 Mountain Workshops to go remote

A day of celebration of the visual image will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2020 and, thanks to our sponsors, Canon, Nikon, Sony and Tamron, the event is free and open to the public. Free camera gear is also being offered as door prizes for those who attend any one of the three sessions being offered. For all of the information regarding this event and to RSVP for any or all of the sessions, please visit our Mountain Workshops Remote 2020 page.

Due to the global health crises brought on by COVID-19, Western Kentucky University officials and the Mountain Workshops administration team agreed that the traditional approach to conducting the workshops that we have taken in the past 44 years needs to be modified to accommodate CDC recommendations and university guidelines to ensure the safety of our participants, volunteers, sponsors and the communities we partner with.

Since 1976, we have continuously offered immersive multiday, in-person visual storytelling experiences in photojournalism, video, picture editing and digital storytelling. Although this year we will not be able to meet face-to-face, we are not going to let that keep us from educating and inspiring the next generation of storytellers.

Our resolve to provide new opportunities involving visual communication is at the core of our 2020 mission statement. Therefore, the Mountain will still be conducted but in a modified form within an online environment.

Stay tuned to our social media channels on Instagram and Facebook and visit this page for updates as they occur. Planning for the fall of 2021 hands-on workshop are underway and we will announce those dates soon.

We look forward to "zooming you" on September 12 and appreciate your involvement in Mountain Workshops 2020!
