Pearl of the Purchase
Nestled in the center of fertile and flat farmland west of the Land Between the Lakes, folks in Mayfield consider themselves to be a little different from other Kentuckians who make their homes near hills and caves. The nation acquired the region as part of the Jackson Purchase, and the city is proud to call itself the pearl of that purchase. Politicians flock to nearby Fancy Farm to make speeches at its annual barbeque picnic.
